Our February Community Meeting on Friday focused on the YES core values of caring and citizenship as students and families donated socks to the Preble Street shelter. We also had some fun with Wacky Socky Day and appreciated a special visit from Lilah Pernal, a YHS Junior, and the student who started our first sock drive! Through the years, we have donated over 7,000 socks as a school! Thank you to our second-grade teachers for organizing this initiative and leading our meeting today.

February is recognized by the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) as "Love the Bus Month," and this week we are celebrating Bus Driver Appreciation Week.

The Yarmouth Schools are fortunate to have a full complement of caring, expert bus drivers, who are supported by an outstanding leadership team and a dedicated maintenance staff provided by the Town of Yarmouth. Our drivers focus on safety while developing caring relationships with students and parents throughout the district, and our bus fleet routinely receives the highest ratings in Maine from State Police inspectors.

Arriving at work to inspect their buses well before the sun comes up and temperatures creep above zero degrees, oftentimes driving well into the evening and on weekends, Yarmouth's transportation team is unquestionably dedicated to getting students where they need to go - and back home again - safely and comfortably.

Please take the opportunity to say a special "thank you" to your drivers this week. Your appreciation is their greatest motivation!

Thank you to our YES students and staff for participating in Flannel Friday 2026! By wearing flannel and showing your support, you helped raise awareness and, just as importantly, helped create a school environment where students feel comfortable, understood, and accepted when it comes to diabetes.

Flannel Friday began five years ago at YHS, started by longtime teacher Lorrie King, who retired after 46 years in education, including 25 at YHS. What began as a fundraiser to support diabetes research has grown into a powerful way to build understanding around a 24/7 disease that affects many children and adults. We are grateful to Lorrie, who continues to support this tradition by sponsoring every flannel worn across the schools.

The voting booths were ready bright and early today! As part of Maine's 5th-grade social studies curriculum, students learn about civics and government, including the basic rights, duties, responsibilities, and roles of citizens in a democratic republic and how people influence government. To work towards meeting this standard, 5th graders had the opportunity to participate in Maine's Mock Election today! The statewide Mock Election is coordinated by the Department of the Secretary of State.
