Dear YES Families,

First and foremost, Happy Mother's Day to all of our YES mothers! I hope that you all get a little well-deserved extra appreciation today.

We have finished up the first week of May and our planning to wrap up this unique school year and prepare for next is well underway. We have begun the class placement process for 20-21. As you know, this is a very thoughtful process. The development of successful classrooms is a top priority and our staff works diligently to place your child in a positive learning environment for him/her. Thank you for trusting our professional judgment.

On that note, we are looking closely at how we will bring some closure to this school year for students while also supporting them with the initial steps of transitioning to next year. I appreciate your patience as we finalize those plans and I expect to have more detailed information for you shortly.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The boulders arrived at YES for our new courtyard! This is going to be such an amazing outdoor learning space.  The 2-story addition continues with the foundation footing and walls being formed and then filled with concrete to become the base for the building. Can you believe they have started forming the footings for our new gymnasium? Check out all the new pictures on the YES Construction Slideshow

VIRTUAL ART SHOWCASE

Are you an inspiring young artist (K-12) living in Yarmouth? Do you have a message to help us get through this coronavirus pandemic and stay healthy? Or, maybe you have a message for our front-line health care workers, local businesses, or a loved one. The Yarmouth Community Coronavirus Task Force is sponsoring a virtual art showcase for students. Student artwork will be displayed on the school websites and other social media. All participating students will be entered into a raffle for gift cards to local businesses, including Royal River Books, Handyʻs, Island Treasure Toys, and Otto. For more information please see the Attachment.

WORLD OF CHANGE

For the past two years many of our classrooms have participated in a program called the "World of Change". Our core values of caring and citizenship are at the heart of this initiative. We were scheduled to begin this year at the same time our remote learning began. The founder of this initiative, Matt Hoidal, is keeping it going virtually if your child would like to still participate. Please see the description from him below:

Did you know there's $10B in spare change sitting in homes across the United States? Yes, 10 Billion Dollars in coins! Imagine the good we could do for the world around us. Over the past two years, YES students have collected $2,496.47 in spare change, 100% of which was distributed to nonprofit partners offering important services in the areas of Health, Education, Food, Housing, Animals & Nature, and Play.

As many of us continue to social distance, World of Change is again offering YES students and families a simple and easy way to connect together across the community to help. While we can't bring our change to school these coming months as previously planned, WOC's website explains how you can still gather your change and make it count: https://www.worldofchange.world/communitiesofchange

As always, please let me know if there is anything that we can do to support your children or if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great day!

Best,

Ryan Gleason, YES Principal
