Dear YES Families,

We are following up on the Valentine’s Day information that was shared last week as we realized that our communication might not have been clear and may have led to some confusion and misunderstanding.

We are celebrating Valentine’s Day at YES on February 14th. The school community will be wishing one another Happy Valentine’s Day and there will be decorations in hallways noting the day. The adjustments that we have made are for a greater focus on friendship and appreciation of one another as the themes of that day. Students will be able to make cards for one another here at school, rather than bring them from home, and/or engage in different activities depending on the grade level.

At times, the emphasis on outside material items becomes a challenge at school as some families may have different means or preferences regarding store-bought Valentines with candy or toys. We have historically encouraged those who bring in paper Valentines to do so for the entire class, minimizing disparities as best we can. Despite those efforts, this has at times led to uneven experiences for everyone involved. For this reason, we asking that items are not brought to school. We will take care of everything here.

We hope that this is helpful information and provides greater clarity and understanding.

Thanks,

Ryan Gleason, YES Principal & Molly Kilpatrick, YES Assistant Principal
