Dear YES Families,

It has been an outstanding start to the school year here at YES! Despite the heat, students have quickly settled into their new classrooms and routines. Thankfully some cooler weather is forecasted for next week.

We are writing today with a few quick informational updates and reminders of upcoming dates in September:

INSURANCE

Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30 pm: Band Information Night for Gr. 4 & 5 Parents (Cafeteria)

Tuesday, September 19 at 6:00 pm: Grade 5 Open House

At each open house, you will learn about your child's academic day and learning experiences.

In an effort to save some paper, we are sending our Open House math information electronically this year. Here is some information on a YES math overview and our Discovery Math opportunity for Gr. 2-4 students.

INVEST IN ME READS PROGRAM

The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) are launching their “Invest in ME Reads” program this September. Invest in ME Reads is a family financial wellness program designed to help parents and caregivers explore educational goals and teach financial skills. The free program includes books and resources for elementary students and their families, along with an educational website, InvestinMeReads.com.

In late September YES students will be provided with these books and educational resources to keep and share with their families at home:

 

Second Grade

·         Those Shoes, a book that includes themes of saving, giving, and delayed gratification, along with a Parent Guide from the CFPB as part of their Money as You Grow Bookshelf program.

·         Information about Maine’s Section 529 plan, NextGen 529®, from FAME, and an introduction to InvestinMeReads.com.

 

Third Grade

·         Money Monsters Learn to Save, a booklet that includes themes of saving, earning, and delayed gratification.

·         Money Monsters stickers and an introduction to InvestinMeReads.com.

 

Fourth Grade

·         Money Monsters Start Their Own Business, a book that introduces students to goal setting, budgeting, the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, and an introduction to InvestinMeReads.com.

·         Information about Maine’s Section 529 plan, NextGen 529®, from FAME.

 

Fifth Grade

·         World’s Coolest Jobs, a book that a book that encourages students to explore careers, including an introduction to InvestinMeReads.com.

·         Information about Maine’s Section 529 plan, NextGen 529®, from FAME.
