Yarmouth Debate won sweeps for the fourth tournament in a row. Maddy Corson placed first in the Senate. Also winning gold were Kate Siegel and Emerson Pardales, both in House chambers. Spencer Moore also placed in the Top 5 for the first time, earning fourth in the same chamber as Emerson. They also made it onto the board in Lincoln-Douglas this week as well (Oscar O'Donnell's trailblazing earlier in the season is paying off!) thanks to Joshua Leinwand, who earned third place in the novice division in his very first at-bat. This was the last normal tournament of the season. After break it's off to championships and qualifiers!

Debate Update - Saturday at the "Digital Nutcracker" Debate Tournament, Yarmouth got silver in sweeps thanks to another slew of solid performances.
Mary Psyhogeos and Kate Siegel were the MVPs this week, with a first place win in the House and a 3rd place in Senate respectively. Also placing were Joshua Leinwand and Tyler Lucca, who earned 2nd and 4th in their Houses respectively. Maddy Corson technically earned at least 5th and maybe even 4th in her House, but that was not recognized due to a judging error which will hopefully be remedied soon.
Deserving of special accolades is Oscar O'Donnell, who became the first Yarmouth competitor to strike out beyond Congressional Debate since we rebooted the team three years ago. He tried his hand at Lincoln-Douglas and appears to have done quite respectably, especially given the obvious challenges.
Congratulations All!

Yarmouth took third overall at the NSDA District Tournament at the Maine State House today. Kate Siegel earned second in the Senate, which makes her a National Qualifier and the second best debater in the entire Maine district for the 2019/2020 season. Meanwhile, Mary Psyhogeos and Maddy Corson both earned spots as alternates in the House, so they may wind up getting invitations of their own before too long. While Georgia Herr and Joshua Leinwand did not earn specific spots as alternates, both broke to the final round of debate, beating out more than a dozen of the toughest debaters in the state for their coveted spots. #yhslearns
