Dear YHS Families,

This August is unlike any other as we prepare for the start of the 2020 school year.  In addition to our traditional preparation for September, our faculty and administration have been working diligently to incorporate new procedures and guidelines.  Today’s letter will serve as the first of several notices as we look forward to the first day of school on September 8th.

Last week, the YHS administration held an Informational Session for parents and students.  For the first month of school, the student body will be split into two groups, with approximately 50% of our students on campus each day.

--Students with last names beginning A through L will be in Group 1

--Students with last names beginning M through Z will be in Group 2

Each group will attend school on site for two days a week.  If you missed last week’s session, a recording of the presentation which provides a schedule for the first two weeks of school can be accessed using the following link:

We would also ask that you take a few minutes to review the following updates:

Laptop handout - This year, laptops may be picked up at YHS prior to the start of classes.  Parents and students should read this information letter. In order to receive their laptops, students will need to bring the permission form and $25.  Students may pick up their school issued laptop at the West Elm entrance during the following times:

--Monday, August 31st between 1 pm and 5 pm

--Tuesday, September 1st between 4 pm and 6 pm

Starting September 8th, students may pick up their laptops directly from the innovation lab during regular school hours.

9th Grade Orientation - On Friday morning, September 4th, we will provide our 9th grade students with the opportunity to visit and tour Yarmouth High School prior to the start of classes.  Our 9th grade team will be sending information to families soon. COVID Protocols - We will provide families with the new protocols and procedures to help better understand what a day of school will look like for our students.

Open Campus procedures - In the next few weeks, we will provide the forms and documentation that will allow students to leave campus during lunch and study halls with parent permission.

Athletics Informational Session - TONIGHT: Monday, August 24th at 7 pm.  Please join Athletic Director David Creech and our fall coaches for a presentation and update on athletics and extracurricular activities.  This meeting can be accessed at the following link: Password: 382868

As a final note, our teachers return to campus tomorrow for the first time in many months, and are excited to begin planning for instruction and learning.  No matter what challenges may be ahead of us, we are committed to upholding the Yarmouth School District’s beliefs of learning, and look forward to working with our students in the upcoming school year.

Respectfully,

Eric Klein, Amy Bongard, & David Creech - YHS Administrative Team
