Superintendent of Schools Andrew Dolloff sent a letter to each family and staff member in the district last week, denouncing the racial injustice that is pervasive throughout the United States.  As part of that notice, Dr. Dolloff stated the following, which serves as the Yarmouth School Department's position on racism and those who are taking a stand against it:

"The senseless killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month stands as a disturbing reminder that racism remains embedded throughout our country.  The Yarmouth School Department stands against injustices such as those that led to Mr. Floyd’s death; we stand together with those calling for an end to racial intolerance in any form; and we stand as one with all those who remember that our greatest call as human beings is to serve one another."

As we head into the summer, it is a particularly challenging time for schools to assist parents in addressing these matters of critical importance to our nation. For parents contemplating how to speak with children about racial bias, HealthyChildren.org has some helpful and timely resources.
